I am 36, healthy, fit, deffinately not over weight. I do regular sport and eat healthily. Yesterday morning I woke up and as the day progressed noticed my toe was very sore and stiff. The night before I had been to the gym and trained quite hard. I had on a pair of fashion trainers with a thin sole. I assumed I had hurt my toe during running with bad shoes. However the doctor I saw thought it was gout. What do you think?

You kindly answered my question about gout/artritis and mentioned a change in diet.Any suggestions as to what I should eat to ease the symptons. I eat a good balanced diet with lots of fruit.I am now informed that some fruits make the condition worse.Any idea if this is true. Thanks

I’ve had some serious pain and swelling recently in the joint where the big toe meets the foot. The diagnosis was that I’ve been afflicted with gout. Being an active 24 year old male with a slim build (5’10, 135lbs), this is truly puzzling. Usually gout affects the middle-aged or the overweight. How is it possible for me to get it?

I wanted to go on a black bean diet because black beans have a great source of fiber, protein, and good carbohydrates. I read up on black beans and saw they they can cause a disease called Gout, and can also stop you from getting essential vitamins. Is this true? Is it a bad idea to continue eating black beans?

I have been encouraged by my primary care physician to maintain a low-carb diet. The Atkins Diet is my preferred low-carb diet because it is the one that works the fastest and best for me. It has always puzzled me that there are so many opinions out there fighting against Atkins. There is a religious zeal out there AGAINST the diet as if one would be sinning against mankind if they chose to use the diet. Even the government is against it (which to me means that there must be something true about it). Anyway, all I know is – IT WORKS – and it has also lowered my blood pressure (contrary to the lies you hear out there). There are many falsehoods spread around about it like "you’ll get gout" and "you can’t eat fruit or veggies". So not true. I eat TONS and TONS of veggies. Anyway, for those who have actually encorporated the diet into their lives beyond just a couple of weeks, what have been your results? Mine have been absolutely great.
